Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City


Đại học quốc gia TP.HCMVietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) was established on January 27, 1995 under the Decree 16/CP of the Government for the purpose of uniting 9 universities and form 8 member universities and officially intruduced to public on February 6, 1996.                             

In 2001, VNU-HCM was reorganized under the Decision 15/2001/QD-TTg on February 12, 2001 of the Prime Minister. Vietnam National University in both Ho Chi Minh and Ha Noi has its own organization regulations and activities. As that, VNU-HCM becomes the leading national multi-disciplinary institution of higher education and a place for promising and challenging people who wish to contribute academically and practically to the development of Vietnam and the region. 

VNU-HCM currently consists of 6 member universities, 1 research institute, 1 directly under faculty and some research and service centers: University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, International University, University of Economics and Law, University of Information Technology, Research Institute for Environment and Natural Resources, Center for Software Technology, Central Library, Center for International Education, Center for Educational Test and Evaluation, Center for National Defence Education, Foreign Language Center,..In addition, VNU-HCM High School for the Gifted has produced many laureates in the international contests of mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer science, biology, literature and English.

VNU-HCM's administrative office is located in Linh Trung - Thu Duc. VNU-HCM  is now building new, modern, well-equipped campuses on an 643,7 hectare area in Thu Duc - Di An project, following the motif of modern scientific centers.

The University's scale can be understood from the fact that it has 49.714 students (graduate and undergraduate). Presently, it offers 74 academic programs for bachelor's, 89 for master's and 91 for doctorate's degrees in areas of  technology, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities and economic sciences.

VNU-HCM has 3.510 staff, including of 2.165 instructors and professors (1.532 post graduates and 164 professors and associate professor).

VNU-HCM is constantly expanding its academic programs and facilities, aiming to maximize the students' potential and prepare them fully for the needs of a global economy in the 21st century.
